BCET – Terms of Service & Refund Policy

(International Students & Online Courses)

1. Introduction

At Brit College of Engineering & Technology (BCET), we value transparency and fairness in all our dealings with applicants, prospective students, and enrolled students—particularly regarding fees and refund policies.

Enrolment in a course at BCET constitutes a legally binding agreement, obligating students to adhere to the terms and conditions of enrolment, including payment of fees, in exchange for educational services.

This policy outlines the rights and obligations of applicants and students concerning refunds and fee recovery, ensuring that students clearly understand the processes involved. BCET is committed to complying with relevant consumer protection laws, including guidance provided by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and sector best practices.

This policy has been designed to provide clarity on how refunds are managed, ensuring prospective applicants, students, and those on a short-term study visa are fully informed. While the College cannot be held liable for changes in a student’s personal circumstances, BCET will consider exceptional cases on an individual basis to ensure fairness, in accordance with CMA guidelines.

This fee recovery and refund policy has been established to clearly communicate BCET’s position on the recovery of fees, the procedures for collecting outstanding fees, and the limited situations where refunds will be considered, ensuring compliance with consumer protection laws.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all tuition and non-tuition fees charged by BCET for courses provided to international students on short-term study visas and students enrolled in online study modes.

It ensures students are informed of their rights and obligations concerning refunds and fee recovery, covering all relevant charges including administrative, visa processing, and related non-tuition fees as outlined in this document.

This policy applies to all fees charged by BCET, except for national examination fees.

3. Aims of the Policy

  • To provide clear guidance on the limited circumstances under which fee refunds or cancellations will be granted.
  • To ensure the policy is fair, transparent, and compliant with consumer protection laws as per CMA guidelines.
  • To outline the calculation and procedures for any potential refunds.

International Students on Short-term Study Visa

4. Refund Principles

Refunds will be granted only under specific circumstances. A minimum of 30 calendar days is required to process a refund.

An administrative fee of £300, which is non-refundable, will be deducted where applicable.

5. Circumstances When Refunds Will Be Granted

Full Refund

A full refund will be issued in the following circumstances:

  1. The College is unable to deliver an advertised course on the planned start date or within two months thereafter due to insufficient student enrolments or other legitimate reasons.
  2. A full refund will be provided if a visa refusal is directly caused by an administrative or procedural error made by BCET. This includes situations where incorrect information or documentation provided by the College leads to refusal. The refund will cover all tuition fees paid by the student, minus any non-tuition costs incurred that cannot be refunded.

Partial Refund

  1. If a student withdraws more than 30 days before the course start date, they will be eligible for a refund of tuition fees paid, minus the non-refundable £250 administrative fee.
  2. If a student withdraws between 14 and 30 days before the course start date, up to 50% of tuition fees paid, minus the non-refundable £250 administrative fee, shall be refunded.

6. Circumstances When Refunds Will Not Be Made

No refunds will be issued in the following cases:

  1. After issuance of a visa sponsorship letter, if the applicant decides not to apply for a visa or withdraws from the course.
  2. Visa refusal due to insufficient personal funds.
  3. Visa refusal following an unsuccessful visa interview.
  4. Visa refusal due to failure to submit required documentation or withdrawal of necessary funds.
  5. Visa refusal due to incorrect or inaccurate information supplied by the student or previous visa refusals impacting the current application.
  6. Visa refusal associated with fraudulent documentation or bans arising from previous applications.
  7. If a student is withdrawn or deported for failing to comply with UK Home Office attendance and performance regulations.
  8. If a student withdraws within 14 days before the course start date or after the course has commenced.
  9. Refund requests must be made within 15 calendar days from the date of the UK Home Office outcome letter.

Refunds relating to visa refusals will only be considered after an administrative review has been requested and a final decision issued, where applicable.

7. Deferrals

Students unable to commence their course on the planned date may apply for deferral. Approval is at BCET’s discretion.

A non-refundable administrative fee of £500 applies if deferral is granted. Requests must include valid supporting evidence and be submitted in writing.

8. Procedures for Refund Applications

Refund requests must be made in writing to BCET and signed by the student, accompanied by relevant supporting documents.

BCET will review each application fairly in line with this policy and CMA guidelines. Exceptional cases will be reviewed individually. Students will be notified of the outcome within a reasonable timeframe.
